Many of us set new years resolutions that we end up not sticking to.

Problem is we go and try to change many things that can be to challenging.

The difference between doing nothing and something is huge.

From zero to doing one thing towards your goal is the part most people don’t even start with

Starting is the hardest part.

Once you begin it’s repeated until it becomes a habit.

You know that your brain loves to save energy and it’s scared of doing anything new.

Going from nothing to action is where you need effort.

Like when you are starting a new fitness program.

You have to get inertia to get going.

Once you have done it once then you know-how.

Like starting an ATM practice.

Who has done the last 2 ATM lessons?

Once you get started it becomes easier. Trying to stop something is tricky when you are trying hard to change you end upkeep on repeating it. As mentioned yesterday it’s easier to start a new thought than stop an old habit.

In Feldenkrais, we often go with the pattern to being with ends up stopping the pattern repeating becasue the student becomes aware of what they are doing.

Once you allow an urge without action on or repeating it once or twice it becomes easier.

The effort is that you have to get over the inertia of just repeating the habit,

Our perfectionist mindset can hold us back from even starting.
